Welcome!
My name is Caglar Onal. I am an Economics Ph.D. candidate at the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee. I am currently on the job market and expect to graduate in May 2023.
I am an applied microeconomist working mainly on topics in labor, crime, discrimination, and health care. My research is primarily concerned with developing and applying quasi-experimental methods to study the causal relationships between government policies and labor market outcomes. My current research agenda involves timely topics around automatic criminal record clearing policies, recreational cannabis legalization, and access to health care.
My job market paper analyzes the relationship between automatic expungement (criminal record clearing) policies and employment. I have received Richard Perlman Outstanding Paper Award in Labor Economics by the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee Economics Department with my job market paper. You can read it here.
Here you can find my Research Statement and CV.
Please feel free to email me (at onal@uwm.edu) if you want to talk about my research, or just to say hello!
